What to Consider when Choosing Microfiber Products
While cleaning with high quality Microfiber is very economical, other cheaply made Microfiber products available on the market can often fool you. Why? Because bargain priced Microfiber products will not clean as well, nor will they last. To assure you of getting the highest quality Microfiber, you should look carefully at the products you are buying.
  • Most inexpensive Microfiber cloths use Microfiber thread that is not split. Quality Microfiber products will absorb over 4 times their own weight in water because the fibers are split, creating more surface area. Cheaply made Microfiber products are not split because the equipment to produce micro replication is very expensive.

  • Denier is the measurement of fineness. The threads on cheaply made Microfiber cloths are larger. Quality Microfiber strands are .1 to .3 denier and Ultra Microfiber is less than .3. The finer the strands, the more durable it is. Tergo Microfiber is 0.1 denier, making it an extremely durable Ultra Microfiber.

  • Inexpensive Microfiber towels may be 100% polyester or have low polyamide content. Quality Microfiber products are made with a blend of 70% polyester and 30% polyamide. A cloth with higher polyamide content will absorb the water faster. Since polyamide is much more expensive, you can expect to pay more for a 70/30 blend over the typical 80/20 blend used in cheaply made Microfiber products.

  • Towel density is a measure of the fibers per square inch of fabric. Quality Microfiber products have at least 90,000 fibers per square inch. Generally the higher the fiber count the better the towel absorbs and cleans.

  • Look carefully at the weave and thickness of the towel. Depending on the specific task the cloth is designed for, the fiber ends may be hooked (for cleaning), weaved (for polishing and glass cleaning), or tufted (for drying).

Authentic Microfiber is manufactured in Sweden, where it was originally developed and manufactured. In fact, Olsson Cleaning Technology was one of the early adapters of Microfiber yarn, discovering that splitting fibers during manufacturing made the fibers "grab" and improve the performance of cleaning towels. It is because of the technology used to create the Microfiber yarn, that it is now possible to clean using just water.
